Day By Day - Isaiah 45

By Tom Mitchell

Personal Thoughts:
Chapter 45 sees God call and anoint a non-believer, Cyrus, to be used to ensure His purposes for the Jewish nation are fulfilled. It also confirms that He is the only one true God and Saviour of the world.

Key Points:
 1 - Cyrus is Called

Cyrus was a successful Persian conqueror whom God used to successfully see to the release of the Jews from captivity and deliverance from their bondage. God clearly used Cyrus as His instrument in many ways. However, verse 13 is a clear indication of what God can do to ensure His purposes are fulfilled.
Verse 13 says,
‘ “I have raised him up in righteousness, And I will direct all his ways;
He shall build My city, And let My exiles go free, Not for price nor reward,”
says the Lord of hosts.’

I love this verse because it shows the heart of God even for those who are not technically called His people. Although Cyrus was not a Jew, God saw that He could input into Cyrus what was needed to ensure the release of the Jewish nation.
God can and will use anyone that He chooses to achieve His desired outcome whether it is a believer or a non-believer.  The perfect example of that is the life of the apostle Paul. Going from a persecutor of God and His people to being sold out for God even till death.
If God wants you to be a part of His plan for any purpose He can and will, “direct all of your ways".

2 - The One True God
Isaiah continues with his explanation of who God is. He is the one and true God and Saviour of the world. Isaiah goes on to explain in verse 16 that those who don’t believe will be put to shame and be disgraced. To the contrary of what will happen when we believe and put our trust in the one true God, and that is the promise of our salvation and the promise that we will not be ashamed or disgraced -  the important statement here is the words “forever more”.
The remainder of this chapter is full of exaltations and direction on how we are to live and maintain our lives in Him which then, in turn, will enable us to truly worship our Lord and Saviour.

Final Thoughts:
To me, this chapter clearly shows God’s heart and desire for His people. We know He loves us unconditionally and His purposes for our lives are foremost. Take hold of His promises for your life and continue to be obedient to Him. The results of that obedience are for us to be able to freely worship Him and Him alone.
